Science Class
Our 5th grade class began science classes this semester. The first 3 weeks we did investigations on air, gravity, and weight. Our 1st chapter will be on life science and the study of cells. We will be preparing during the semester to do a science fair project at the end of the year. More will be posted on that as the semester moves on. We are also doing mini lessons on phonics this semester. We spend about 15 minutes a day on the phonics.

December classes
The 5th graders are beginning to study the American Revolution, and with that will be getting into the making of our government. We have a textbook called We The People that we will be studying out of. Later this week we will be learning parts of the Declaration Of Independence. Please help your child with this. In math we will begin a chapter on measurement. Learning parts of an inch will be difficult. We round to the nearest inch, half, fourth, and eighth. We will be learning about area and perimeter. Our problem solving activity this Friday will be designing a 5000 square foot backyard with whatever they choose to put in it. They will use perimeter and area to figure out what will fit and then design their own backyard.
